George W. Kates built his summer cottage in 1895. Kates was the first tax assessor for Avalon.
Originally anchored at 254 6th St, Avalon, New Jersey,
the home was moved in 2020 to save it from demolition.
We knew we had to save history - and what better town to bring history to? Cape May of course!
But you'll also enjoy cooking in our farmhouse kitchen!
We've salvaged and restored unique items to give this historical retreat an interesting modern touch!

Piece of cake! This only took: 2 weeks to disassemble, a 4 hour trek to storage in Egg Harbor, 8 months to find land, 2 trips (March and June) of 7 hours each back to Cape May, and about 2 years of re-building! A 3 year investment!
